MANAGER’S MESSAGE: SHORT & SWEET STRAWBERRY SEASON!
We’re well and truly into strawberry season—one of those fruits that always seems to come and go so quickly! There’s nothing better than biting into a sun-ripened, crimson strawberry, which is why I completely gorge myself on them during their brief window here in New England. Those bland berries you find at the supermarket over the winter have nothing on the local berries you can pick up from Brigham Farm and Lanni Orchards at our market! Think of them as a once-a-year treat and splurge on the perfect berries while they last.
Although I’ve been indulging in the classics (strawberries on top of tasty greens from Good Roots Farm and strawberry shortcake topped with Ackermann maple–sweetened whipped cream), I’m always on the lookout for new recipes.
The compilations below will fuel your imagination and help you incorporate berries into each and every meal during their short-but-sweet season! Enjoy, and if you have any creative ideas, let me know so I can try them out!
Cheers!

TABLE TALK: BRING YOUR MISSION TO THE MARKET
Did you know the Medford Farmers Market invites like-minded local groups to host our weekly community table? This is a chance to spread the word about your nonprofit organization or initiative, free of charge. Interested? Here’s what to do:
- Check out our up-to-date calendar to see which weeks are free.
- Then email medfordfarmersmarket@gmail.com with a brief description of your mission, a link to your website, and the date you’re hoping to attend.
- Please note: You’re not confirmed for your requested date until you hear from us, but we’ll get back to you ASAP!
- The market is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, with free parking at city hall. We ask all community tablers to stay for the duration of the market. Thanks!
These durable recycled-cotton shopping bags not only look great, they do good work! Plus, they’re a steal for a minimum donation of $12! But they’re only available at the market while supplies last—which might be this week!
The Medford Farmers Market runs 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays through October 13, 2016, at One City Hall Mall, behind City Hall, in Medford, Mass.
